The manufacturing process used to produce automobiles has evolved tremendously through the years. While hulking, all-steel behemoths once ruled the road, today the emphasis appears to be on safety and fuel economy.

Automobiles are still constructed using lots of steel and other metals, however, an increasing amount of newer materials have been introduced by the industry. A car’s interior, in particular, is now comprised mostly of plastic and similar materials.

Most of the automobiles that are now considered classics featured many interior parts that were made from metal, such as glove compartments and dashboards. Replacing these parts with lighter plastic materials has improved fuel economy and enhanced safety in modern automobiles.

Newer cars also include more materials that are designed to reduce noise and improve comfort. A number of modern materials such as foam and fiberglass insulating materials are used to make cars quieter and more comfortable.

Today’s cars also include a lot of electronic components that control functions like fuel consumption, braking and suspension. As a result, many of the same materials that are used to manufacture a personal computer or digital camera are now found in automobiles.

As new composite materials are developed, they will likely make their way into the auto manufacturing process and further enhance fuel economy, safety and comfort.

Many people who are interested in classic cars are attracted by the looks. Classic cars tended to have sharper edges, lots of chrome and flashy elements such as fins. But the differences between classic and modern cars are more than just skin deep.

One of the biggest differences between classic and modern cars is the materials used to build them. Older cars contained a lot more steel compared with modern cars, which are often mostly made of composite materials such as fiberglass.

Another big difference between classic cars and modern cars is technology. Newer cars are a lot more reliant on computers, which can make them more difficult and more expensive to fix when something goes wrong. Computers control fuel injection on modern cars, for example, whereas classic cars used carburetors.

One final difference between classic and modern cars is safety. Modern cars employ numerous safety devices, including air bags and ABS brakes, that weren’t available technologies when classic cars were produced.

Do you ever wonder why certain classic cars are popular and other ones really aren’t? Well, a plethora of reasons exists for this situation. However, one of the reasons is that movies have, both now and in the past, represented classic cars in ways that people love.

For example, some movies will feature beloved celebrities driving classic cars. This doesn’t necessarily mean that fans of the celebrities go out and purchase the vehicles although some may do just that. It does, however, let people associate that vehicle with a particular celebrity. They will always remember the car because their favorite celebrity drove it.

Additionally, some people are not familiar with classic cars at all. They don’t know much about automobiles, so they don’t bother to learn additional facts. When they see a movie, a flashy and classy car is driven practically right before their eyes, and they may be inspired to learn a bit more.

Movies can really influence people in a lot of ways by showing attractive images to the eyes of many an audience. If you suddenly find yourself interested in classic cars, you might want remember that a particular movie and a celebrity was the source of your inspiration.

Classic cars have a lasting impression that defies age. Whether it is at a car show or just passing by on the street, the timeless lines and curves of classic cars incite stares of admiration. The classic rumble of a carbureted V8 engine or the smooth sound of a straight-six makes people turn heads. Many modern cars even take their cues from their classic counterparts. The styling and body dimensions of classic cars have great influence over modern cars.

Some people would love to own a classic car, however, most classic vehicles cars do not make the best daily drivers. Some modern day cars take the heritage from the classic cars, but add modern amenities that many people depend on. Items such as fuel injection and computerized engine management systems make the modern cars more efficient. Safety features such as air bags and seat belts are installed in every modern vehicle. The resemblance of some modern cars to their classic predecessor is undeniable. Many modern vehicles have that classic car interior with the analog gauges, metal gear shifters, and seats that look like they came straight from the 1950′s. Even the aggressive exhaust sounds of some modern vehicles are inspired by the legendary exhaust notes of classic cars.

Owning a vehicle is something that many people are proud of. They have invested money into something that they now can call their own. Just like anything else. Though, a car requires maintenance in order for it to function properly. Without proper care and handling, the car will no longer be able to meet the expectations that have been set for it by the owners. Regardless of whether the car is a classic or a new vehicle, it still must receive similar types of maintenance and service procedures. Those who properly take care of their vehicle will notice that it will live a longer and healthier life.

One thing that all vehicles should have to undergo is an oil change. This is imperative in order to ensure the longevity of the life of the engine. Those who forget to get an oil change will notice that their car will start to develop different types of problems. A simple oil change can help prevent not only problems, but costs that would be needed in order to fix the problems. Having the car checked out every so often is good way to find out what may need to be done to help the car.

Cars are a major part of our lives. Not only are they one of the most expensive purchases for consumers, but they are often necessary to run errands and make a living. It is possible to avoid many expensive repairs by doing some simple routine maintenance.

Some of the routine maintenance items are common sense; however, some things that might not be so obvious are included in the maintenance schedule for your vehicle. If you do not have the owner’s manual for your car, a repair manual from your local auto parts store will typically have the same information. A car will last a long time if you take care of it in most cases.

Following some of these simple maintenance tips can keep your car running for years. You should check the fluid levels and belts. Tire inflation and tread depths should also be checked on a regular basis. Keeping your tires inflated to the proper levels also helps maintain fuel efficiency.

Things like power steering fluid, automatic transmission fluid, brake fluid and clutch fluid are, in most cases, used in a closed system. This means that if they are low, there might be a leak somewhere or your car.

The hits keep comin’: Fall Car Care Month: Keep Your Car Running Newer, Longer for Safe Seasonal Driving
